I work for a tire … I work for a tire plant in MT vernon call general tire/ continal tire north america only if they new they could just take the tires that have bad with side wall letters that are either chewed up to much from the grinder they could sell those and make money but we scrap them they need to see this video and relize they could sell thim as wide with wall’s
I know, I wanted to … I know, I wanted to buy a set of 4, can’t afford it. Your correct, scrape the curb a few times, your almost there. Better still, do this right on the car! Jack the car, set up a small grinder, mount it securly, a large V-belt around the tire, securly mount a 1/4 horse motor to drive it, as the tire spins feed the grinder inwards & along the sidewall. In short, a lath facing off anything, just on a larger scale. I think a Die Grinder with a cutting bit mounted on a compound carriage will work!
Yes in a way but he … Yes in a way but he is hardly removing any rubber, it is a very thin layer he is removing, it won’t hurt the tire. Have you ever seen a tire blow because it went bald even down to the cords? The cords give it strength not the rubber. I have changed many tires that the cords were popping through. Tires normally blow because of under inflation, overloaded or a sudden bruses like a sharpe cut, etc. He’s not removing that much material, he even makes note of that.
I’ve seen tires … I’ve seen tires with serious curb rash, this takes it a step further! I’m gonna take a stab at it for shure, have you seen the price of wide white walls? It’s worth the time to try it!
Good idea, never … Good idea, never thought of it! It’s not the rubber that gives the tire its strength, it’s the cord or belt inside the rubber. There use to be companies around that would do this on a machine that would spin the tire as it was removing the rubber.
I wonder how many … I wonder how many people will try this and then have there tire fail at highway speeds because they took too much off ,or they made a slight imperfection it the plys of the sidewall, of there “cheap 10 dollar tire” was not road-worthy to begin with…best of luck on that….
Any tire that … Any tire that already has white on it can be used. That is, any narrow white wall or white letter tires. All black tires can not be used.
