University of Iowa Farm Machine Music
This incredible machine was built as a collaborative effort between the
Robert M. Trammell Music Conservatory and the Sharon Wick School of
Engineering at the University of Iowa .
Amazingly, 97% of the machines’
components came from John Deere Industries and Irrigation Equipment of
Bancroft Iowa , yes farm equipment!
It took the team a combined 13,029 hours of set-up, calibration, and tuning before filming this video but as you can see it was
WELL worth the effort.
It is now on display in the Matthew Gerhard Alumni Hall at the
University and is already slated to be donated to the Smithsonian.

The Eighth of my Re-enactment series.
This is one of my favorite scenes from any movie. It’s from the film Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. In it, Steve Martin is trying to get home for Thanksgiving. He meets John Candy through chance, and just can’t see to get rid of him as he tries to make it home before the holidays.
In this scene, they stay in a motel room together. After John Candy clears his sinuses for a few minutes, Steve Martin finally snaps and goes off on how annoying he is.
Long live John Candy, comic genius.
And Steve Martin too… I love him, but… Cheaper by the Dozen 2?
Oh well.
