Great for glass, i … Great for glass, i guess, but when i see a pile of glass i avoid it. But you don’t see one small furniture nail, and they go right on threw. Sure the tire is better than other tires but not good enough.
Most people think … Most people think armadillos are GEAt for fixies, but its not, ibe riding for a week and skidding only when i have to stop, and its already flat
The 700×25c … The 700×25c Specialized Armadillo’s have not worked out well for me during my daily 32 mile commute along rural roads. I would get, on average, 1 flat per week, and the hole left by the flat would ruin the tire. I pay around $55 for the Arma’s. I switched to Schwalbe Marathon’s for about the same cost. They don’t roll as well as the Arma’s (they will only take 115psi vice the Arma’s 125psi) but no flats yet. They also have better wet-weather tread. So I’m no longer a fan of Specialized Arma’s.
I have to admit i … I have to admit i dont know anyone who rides on broken glass, but i do know that everyone i ride with rides on goat head infested trails, so until a tire is developed for actual mountain bike trail conditions, this whole story is complete dog shit, im sorry thats just my .02 cents
I switched my road … I switched my road bike to 700×28C armies a year ago. My rear wheel is starting to show tread wear after ~1500 miles (I climb a alot of hills but I’ve *never* gotten a flat. This may be the first tire I wear out before my first flat!
That said, out of the 5 I’ve owned, I did have a problem with one of them coming apart where red and black rubber meet.
There’s a new all black one out that I’ll get next time.
i changed from … i changed from borough 700 42 to borough armadillo 700 32…its faster and no punctures but i find it a harder ride….on the hands, maybe thats on all 32’s but its tough..gloves are needed
I use Armadillos on … I use Armadillos on my commuter, and I bike around 200 miles a week. They’re great, but because of the stiff side wall, the give a harsh ride. They are also are heavy and have poor rolling resistance. I still use them because of the poor roads I bike through.
If your path isn’t so bad I would recommend Conti Ultra Gator Skins. The are really durable (almost flat-proof) but give a much better ride.
My commuting bike … My commuting bike does 150 miles a week with Armadillos 700×25, no puncture since I started using them over a year ago. However they aren’t great in the wet and I don’t like the red side wall.
Not the most high … Not the most high performance tire in the world but I have only one flat this summer (thumb tack) when I usually have at least one a week. I ride and average of 13,000 miles a year.
I commute almost 80 … I commute almost 80 miles/day x 5 days per week on them, to work and back, and have ridden six months straight on a rear tire and a whole season on the front (which lasts twice as long).
I used them all the … I used them all the time on my road and mtn bikes because they are great. I almost never have flats and when I do, its because I actually have ridden them so much that I am into the whitish threads coming through. I have tried everything else available and nothing is more flat-resistant. I have tried all the widths on the road tires from around 20 to 28. I am a heavy rider and I ride through bike trails with the most glass, so flats are inevitable if the tires are worn out.
I hate them!!! I was talked into the tires before I did the AIDSLIFECycle from San Francisco to LA ride on my road bike and I had 6 flats in 24 hours. After I got home, I got a flat on front and back, simultaneously, and the bike shop said”it must be your rim tape”. I plan on replacing them as soon as I can.

its true that …
its true that you’ll probably never get a flat with armies, but the rubber wears out faster than some other tires.
if i could only find a tire that combined the puncture-resistance of the Specialized Armadillo and the all-around quality of the Maxis Re-Fuse.
